Heritage

Described as a 'master milliner' and an 'ambassador for hat-making' Yvette has always been passionate about the materials she uses and the community she sources from. She specialises in hand blocking and hat making, and uses all British-produced materials (much of it from Yorkshire and Scotland), creating unique hats, with the fabrics moulded by steam and all the trimmings made by hand.

"All of my hats and headpieces are made using old fashioned millinery techniques and natural materials. Hats are hand-blocked at my Melrose workrooms giving me ultimate design control and quality over every piece. Although some machining is necessary many of the pieces are hand-sewn and I find all of the trimmings myself from a wide range of natural and sustainable sources; such as friends with exotic birds, gamekeepers, fishing shops etc, the list is endless. I also try to avoid manmade materials as I find they date very quickly and do not have the same character as natural pieces."

A New Direction for the Company…

Due to covid and the lack of events such as horse-racing and weddings, we had to pivot the brand. We started to create high end couture fashion garments and accessories for our private clients. We focus on providing our loyal clients with luxurious and elegant pieces keeping in with our tradition and craftsmanship. Working in a circular economy, we make sure that we have no waste and reuse all materials available to us. Working with the government we have stopped using gas to heat our metal blocks for hat production, and are looking forward becoming a 100 per cent fully sustainable fashion company. Ending fast fashion for good . We love to use and rework vintage fabrics and materials as they have a level of craftsmanship and quality that we rarely see today. We offer a repair service for both hats and clothing ensuring that our clients most cherished pieces can stay with them for longer.
